Thank You- Top 10!

Team Coconutter Strutters has a HUGE thank you to announce!

With your help, we are one of the top 10 teams at the Michigan event.  We have raised over $32,000, to date.  That's INCREDIBLE!  (If you haven't had a chance to donate, check out the fundraising page for Susie Gallison and Karen Pearson.  They are working on their minimum goal and need to raise $2,300, each.)

To date, you have helped us raise enough money to provide over 260 life-saving mammograms!

We will soon let you know how much money the entire Michigan event has raised or you can join us at closing ceremonies to be the first to find out.  If you are not able to make it out to the event, you can follow our journey on Facebook.  Will will share plenty of pink photo ops along the way!

Thank you for all of your support,
Team Coconutter Strutters

Fundraising Friday - 1 week (MI)

This saying is a perfect fit for our Michigan team this week as they wrap up their fundraising. We have collectively made a HUGE impact on the fight against cancer.  For many of us, this journey represents HOPE for a future without the terrible 'C' word.

At the time of this post, we are currently at 95% of our goal.  We are also one of the top 10 teams for the Michigan event and can't wait to get out on the route next weekend and tackle those 60 miles!  Please help us get our last few team members to their goal of $2,300.
Large or Small, we love them all (donations that is!)

We hope to see you out on the route next weekend!

Fundraising Friday - NEW COCONUTS!

Maxine Przybylowicz and Karen Pearson are new to our team but not to the 3-Day event.

Maxine, Karen and Victoria on event in 2013

This year is Karen’s 9th year participating in the 3-Day and Maxine’s 6th year.  They are mother and daughter. Karen will be walking and Maxine will be crewing this year.  Karen was injured in a car accident in December and has undergone knee surgery and weeks of therapy. However, she is determined to walk again this year.  She says she may be slower than usual but she will do it.  Any of you that have taken part knows that feeling, it's just something you have to do.  Karen wasn't sure she would be able to walk this year so she is behind in her fundraising.

If you would like to donate to Karen, please click here

60 days 'till 60 miles!

We are only 60 days away from walking 60 miles in the Michigan 3-day event!  Please help us reach our goal - the money raised gives us hope for a brighter future {without cancer}.

The future coconut pictured above is lucky to call her grandmother a survivor!

75% of the net proceeds raised help support Susan G Komen's Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25% helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.

Thank you for giving us hope!

FAQ's

Participating in the 3-Day is an incredible experience. While we prepare (fundraising & training), we get a lot of questions about the journey.

One popular questions is: "How long does it take to walk 60 miles?"

On average, we walk 20 miles each day. Measured in time, it is equivalent to a work day. Some walkers like to keep moving and get to camp early, while others stop to smell the roses.

Thank you for your continued support!

A Moment

As a participant of the 3-day, we receive emails to help keep us on track and updated on everything we need to know prior to the event. Last week, the email touched on ways to fundraise and to our surprise our team was pictured at the top!

How cool is that?

I try to write these blog posts on behalf of the team, but as the captain I can't begin to explain the emotions that hit me when I look at this picture. At this precise moment I was standing on the opening stage trying my hardest not to cry my eyes out as I explain in a few short sentences "why I walk". The photographer just happened to catch my team as I spoke with a shaky voice. The look on their faces and the tears in their eyes had nothing to do with walking but everything to do with that moment where every single one of us recalled the reason we walk.

You've got to admit, walking 60-miles sounds pretty extreme. But if for just one moment during those 60-miles, we can feel empowered enough that we made a difference in a cancer free future ... We will never stop. If for just one moment we can feel the presence of someone we have lost ... We will never stop.

I don't walk 60-miles because I like to walk. I walk 60-miles for the opportunity to be completely emotionally invested in a moment.
